I’m Aleksandr Ovcharenko (or simply Alex). Over the past fifteen years, I have worked across a wide range of operational environments, from navigational bridges, vessel traffic services, and fleet operation centres to healthcare systems, industrial automation, and engineering software. This experience exposed me to a consistent underlying challenge: enabling people to maintain situational awareness, make decisions, and retain control in increasingly complex and uncertain systems.
Rather than focusing on individual interfaces in isolation, I am particularly interested in operational ecosystems — how information, responsibility, and decision-making are distributed across operators, supervisors, management functions, training environments, and supporting systems. In practice, this often means working across boundaries between products, roles, and contexts rather than within a single interface or application.
Throughout my career, I have contributed to navigational systems, maritime simulators, fleet management platforms, digital radiology equipment, SCADA systems for mining, gas transportation and nuclear power industries, PLM and IETM platforms, among others. I have also participated in international standards activities, including IEC 62288 and IALA human factors guidelines.
Outside of work, I live in Norway with my wife, daughter, and three cats. I spend much of my time working on my small sailboat and building small practical systems — from Arduino-based tools to workshop and onboard improvements — where software, hardware, and physical constraints meet in real-world conditions.
